Situation
Alaska Waste is the dominant independent waste collection company in Alaska, serving over 82,000 residential and commercial customers providing trash, recycling, and composting services in Anchorage, the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, Fairbanks, the Kenai Peninsula and Kodiak Island. The company was purchased from Waste Management in 2005 by local investors who proceeded to grow the business by winning new municipal contracts and making selected tuck-in acquisitions. Having achieved a great share of the growth potential in the market, ownership was receptive to a liquidity alternative when approached by Waste Connections Inc.
ZS Role
As a result of previous transaction experience in the industry and negotiating with Waste Connections, Zachary Scott was selected to assist the ownership group and its legal team in the successful negotiation and execution of the transaction.
Results
The sale of the business was consummated with Waste Connections, an integrated solid waste services company that provides collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services mostly in exclusive and secondary markets in the U.S.
